Communicate with SPI
In order to bake the perfect cake, one must first acquire the perfect ingredients.
Production is the acquisition phase of a project during which the necessary raw footage is gathered prior to the editing process.  SPI offers a variety of services that are all a part of our basic project production package as well as being available for independent hire.

The in-house services offered by SPI are indicative of our concept-oriented, cinematic approach to production.  Spectrum’s production style, while versatile enough to accommodate any subject matter or theme, embraces the principles of perspective videography and scene-based storytelling as a means of achieving quality results.  All-too-common is the producer whom leans on flashy graphics and wiz-bang effects in order to cosmetically conceal unremarkable footage.  At SPI, we focus on the creation of imaginative visuals through the use of the same cinematography techniques found in quality movie making.  Those looking for an alternative to the formulaic, indolent and unoriginal production styles born in the age of electronic glitz and gadgetry need look no further.
Videography Formats
SPI operates in two broadcast-quality acquisition formats as well as two optional industrial formats.

Spectrum’s broadcast DVCAM videography is capable of both standard aspect ratio and true widescreen production.  Our DSR-500WSL is recognized as one of the premiere digital cameras in the television and video production industries.  It is rated equivalent to Digital Beta in resolution quality and features time-code and firewire integration.

If budgeting is a concern, SPI also offers broadcast-quality production in the form of analog ¾ inch videography.  Due to our quality control standards and signal processing procedures, this format remains a favorite amongst many of our clients.  Moreover, we welcome any comparisons in the picture quality and resolution of our ¾ inch product to that of Beta SP.  One thing is for certain, our client’s sure can’t discern the difference!

Steadicam Operation
(Note: The term
steadicam operation has come to be used universally in reference to any form of professional camera stabilization, regardless of equipment manufacturer.)

When the first Steadicam was introduced in the mid-70s it immediately won an Academy Award for Best Technical Achievement.  Since that time, steadicam operation has become a staple of motion picture and television production.  Calling upon Newtonian physics, the body-mounted camera stabilizer allows a qualified operator to produce stable, fluid, cinematic-looking linear traversing shots over virtually any terrain or surface.

SPI owns and operates the Glidecam Gold.  This elite rig represents not only the lone camera stabilizer in use within Wyoming, but is one of the finest systems to be found in the entire region.

Along with Wall Street’s NASDAQ Teleproductions, our customized rig is the first complete (non-prototype) Gold Series stabilizer in use anywhere in the world.  With its top-flight design specifications and cutting-edge technology, the GC Gold is poised to take its place alongside the very best camera stabilizers servicing the motion picture, television and professional video production industries worldwide.

Steadicam operation is a part of Spectrum’s basic production package.  As such, our clients are provided with this uniquely valuable service (whenever applicable within the context of a project) at standard production rates.  Thereby, avoiding the costly fees commonly associated with out-of-house acquisition of such a specialized service.

Jib/Crane Operation
A jib is a rigid boom arm (or crane) with a camera positioned on an articulating head at the far end.  The electronically-actuated head allows the camera to pan, tilt, zoom, focus, record and control iris by remote function.  Jibs are typically used to achieve shots requiring horizontal and vertical camera movement or positioning.  In the hands of a qualified operator, a jib can produce smooth, sweeping, cinematic-looking shots from a static position that are every bit as unique and interesting as those produced by a steadicam, but with the added dimension of transitional elevation.

SPI has owned and operated the Stanton Jimmy Jib since 1991.  It remains the only professional jib arm in operation within Wyoming.  Jimmy Jib systems are most commonly utilized in motion picture and high-end video production.  They can also be seen in operation quite regularly at broadcast sporting events and on the sets of other live network and cable television productions.

Spectrum's jib is capable of accommodating any professional video camera (analog or digital) and interfaces with both Fujinon and Canon lenses.

Jib operation is a part of Spectrum’s basic production package.  As such, our clients are provided with this uniquely valuable service (whenever applicable within the context of a project) at standard production rates.  Thereby, avoiding the costly fees commonly associated with out-of-house acquisition of such a specialized service.

Track Dolly Operation
A track dolly system is a series of interconnected rails that look something like railroad tracks.  Once laid, a camera dolly and its operator can be pushed along the rails to achieve smooth, cinematic-looking tracking shots.  Tracks are also very useful when used in conjunction with a jib/crane in order to produce passive overhead trucking shots or even floatational drift shots.

Track dollies have been in use throughout most of motion picture and television history, yet still remain a rare commodity in Wyoming and around the region.  As an aspect of Spectrum’s production activities, track dolly operation is available as part of our basic production package (whenever applicable within the context of a project).
