It takes the skill and vision of an artist to transform a blank canvas into a work of art.
The post-production phase of a project is most notably associated with the editing process, but can involve a wide variety of specialty services as well. Since the process of assembling the raw ingredients into a finished product is no less valuable than that of any other link in the production chain, SPI maintains the facilities and expertise necessary to achieve the best results…no matter what the budget.
Editing SPI is capable of operating in both linear and non-linear editing modes. The non-linear editing platform that we prefer and utilize extensively is the DPS Velocity. The Velocity’s versatility and minimal rendering requirements (even in complex timeline configurations) allows for editing sessions that are faster and more efficient than most other systems. Spectrum’s editor is widescreen capable and fully functional within the 3D environment. With video storage space in excess of 200 gigabytes and the ability to input/output composite, component and digital (firewire) signals, our system is ready for any task. SPI also maintains a complete ¾ inch A/B-roll editing system for those circumstances when linear production is preferable. Usage of this particular form of editing is most valuable in situations that involve construction of event footage (whereby large video dumps to a non-linear platform would be too time consuming and expensive) or when up-stream production is more efficient. Our linear editing bay also interfaces with an on-site C-band satellite dish for those occasions when the monitoring or recording of a downlink transmission is necessary. If needed, satellite uplinking services can also be provided locally.
Graphics, Animation and Compositing Over the years, one of our most popular services has been that of computer graphic art and 3D animation. Graphics cannot only serve as an invaluable visual aid tool, they can also greatly enhance a presentation’s overall appeal when properly conceived and executed. SPI is proficient in the use of relative and hierarchical motion animation systems such as Lightwave. Lightwave has been an industry standard for many years and is responsible for the effects and animation sequences incorporated into many movies and cutting-edge television series such as Babylon 5 and Roughnecks: Starship Troopers. Should frame animation of physical objects be required, SPI is ready for the challenge. We utilize AniMate, which is the same single-frame stop-motion animation system that was used during the creation of the classic claymation motion picture, Chicken Run. Whenever the application of complex visual effects with motion video is in order, SPI calls upon high-end compositing tools such as Digital Fusion. Likewise, since the design and manipulation of static 2D imagery is also extremely important to a production, SPI creates high-quality graphic art utilizing a variety of paintbox workstations, including Adobe Photoshop.
